Q: What does the Family Support Grant cover?
A: Our Family Support Grant program covers three main areas:
Medications, supplements & feeding supplies — including specialized formulas and ketogenic diet supplements not covered by provincial health plans.
Equipment — such as wheelchairs, standing aids, and other devices that improve quality of life.
Infrastructure — including ramps, lift systems, and bathroom modifications to ensure safe access at home.
If you're unsure whether a specific need qualifies, please reach out — we'll do our best to help.
Q: How long does the grant application process take?
A: We aim to review all applications as quickly as possible. Once we receive your completed application, we will acknowledge it within 5 business days and work to make a decision within 4–6 weeks.
For urgent situations — for example, if a child's health or safety is at immediate risk — please flag this in your message and we will prioritize your file.
Q: Is there a maximum amount I can apply for?
A: Grant amounts are assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the family's needs, available funding, and what other support the family may already be receiving. We do not publish a fixed maximum — our goal is to fill the gap that existing programs leave behind.
Please provide as much detail as possible in your application about the specific items or services you need funding for, including any quotes or cost estimates.
Q: Can I apply for ongoing or recurring support?
A: Yes. We understand that many care needs — such as specialized formulas or recurring medication costs — are ongoing rather than one-time expenses. Families may apply for recurring support and are welcome to submit follow-up applications as circumstances change.
Q: What documents will I need to provide with my application?
A: Typical supporting documents may include:
Confirmation of the child's diagnosis from a medical professional.
Quotes or receipts for the items or services being requested.
Documentation showing the items are not covered by existing provincial or private plans.

Eligibility
Q: Who is eligible to apply for a grant?
A: Brady's Foundation provides support to families caring for children with rare, life-limiting (palliative) diseases. To be eligible, the child must:
Have a confirmed diagnosis of a rare or life-limiting condition.
Reside in Alberta, Canada.
Have a demonstrable financial need for items or services not covered by other programs.
If you're unsure whether your situation qualifies, please reach out — we'd rather hear from you than have a family miss out on support.
Q: Do you only support families in Calgary?
A: No. Brady's Foundation serves families across Alberta. One of our core motivations is that access to funding varies significantly between health regions in Alberta, leaving many families in rural and central Alberta underserved. We are here to help bridge that gap regardless of where you live in the province.
Q: What age is considered a “child” for the purposes of a grant?
A: We generally support children up to the age of 18. However, we consider each case individually. If your child is approaching or has recently passed the age of 18 and is still in active palliative care, please contact us to discuss your situation.
Q: Can families who receive support from other charities still apply?
A: Yes. Brady's Foundation is designed to fill gaps that other programs leave behind, not to replace them. We actively encourage families to access every resource available to them. Please disclose any other funding sources in your application so we can assess the remaining gap in coverage.
Donating
Q: Is my donation tax-deductible?
A: Yes. Brady's Foundation is a registered Canadian charity (CRA Charitable Registration No. 781558879 RR0001). Eligible donations receive an official tax receipt that can be used when filing your Canadian income tax return.
Tax receipts are issued by email. Please ensure you provide a valid email address when donating.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?

About the Foundation
Q: Who started Brady's Foundation and why?
A: Brady's Foundation was co-founded by Jaclyn Tainsh and Justin Lambert in memory of Brady Johnathan Regehr (November 13, 2008 – 2016), a boy whose enormous personality and fighting spirit inspired everyone who knew him.
Brady was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease and spent years navigating a system where families often fall through the cracks — between provincial health coverage, private insurance, and the reality of what caring for a complex child actually costs. The foundation exists to close that gap for other families.

Q: Will my health information or my child's information be shared?
A: No. Health and medical information provided as part of a grant application is treated with the highest level of confidentiality. It is shared only with board members directly involved in reviewing your application and is never disclosed to unauthorized third parties or used for any other purpose.
Q: Can I request access to or deletion of my personal information?
A: Yes. Under PIPEDA and Alberta PIPA, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and to request corrections. You can also withdraw consent or request deletion (subject to any legal record-keeping obligations).
